City officials investigating neighborhood dominatrix

by Tom Spalding

Indianapolis officials are asking questions about a homeowner in the Meridian-Kessler neighborhood who operates a so-called basement "dungeon" in which men pay money to dress up in women's clothes, wear makeup and be abused.

City officials only recently became aware of the activities and couldn't say Wednesday whether any criminal law, zoning ordinance or city code was being broken, since all Donaghy says occurs is men dressing up in fancy costumes and engaging in theatrical role-playing. If sex acts were proven, for example, the city could ask a judge to shut the activities down.

"I don't do anything illegal. If somebody calls for sex, I hang up," she said. She declined to provide specifics about the business, referring to the Yahoo Web site. [cont.]

Inn's liquor license may be revoked

Press Telegram (Long Beach, CA)
May 13, 2003

A Long Beach hotel stands to lose its liquor license after an appellate court panel rejected a challenge to the state's alcohol regulations board brought by a group described as a "swingers club."

Justice Patti S. Kitching said a trial judge erred in hearing LSO's suit because trial courts have no jurisdiction over the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, or ABC, on regulatory actions.

LSO claims a nationwide membership of 25,000 and describes itself as a group of heterosexuals who "belong to the organization for the express purpose of associating with similarly minded people concerning their views on human relationships as expressed through their exploration of sensuality, intimacy and human sexual expression." The gentrification of alternative sex

by James Sullivan
San Francisco Chronicle
May 8, 2003

In San Francisco, of course, we're spoiled by the prevailing tolerance — encouragement, even — of alternative lifestyles. Hey, the fetishistic Folsom Street Fair just about passes as family entertainment these days.

The rest of America might not be quite ready for chaps in the Fourth of July parade, but Charles Gatewood says his beloved erotic underground isn't buried so far underground anymore.

Gatewood, the fine-art "anthropological photographer" who specializes in radical sexuality and body modification, is on intimate terms with subcultures most of us haven't imagined in our kinkiest dreams. The familiar ones, he says — role playing, S&M — are flowering just behind the doors of Main Street USA. [cont.]
